November!

Welcome to November! Like everyone else - life has been rather busy here at the LaCroix household.
Nancy - Reflecting on fall, I would have to say - volleyball.....
That is what I have been doing the last three months. I was approached at the end of July to help with the high school program here. After some (okay, much) reluctance on my part, some encouragement from Jim and other family members, I finally agreed. I had the JV team, and though the girls didn't have a great win/loss record, they really developed. That sounds like a "coachy" thing to say doesn't it? The coaching staff was really fun to work with and I had developed three sweet friendships from the season. The girls worked hard - and though it took them some time to warm up to me (can you believe that?), had fun. I loved being in the gym again, and played whenever I could. Those young girls were surprised that us old coaches could still play.....
My family was so awesome through all this. I was gone a lot, and we rarely enjoyed an evening meal together. The girls hung out at the gym with me some of the time, and Jim was great about running them to soccer, and dance.
Jim - He's been working a lot - sometimes up to three jobs at a time. That has been interesting. He is currently down to two jobs; Church, and a dog washing place. The last few weeks, he has helped open a dog washing business for a woman who has had some medical problems and was unable to get it off the ground on her own. Jim has been getting the place ready, and taking care of it during the day. He was also working at a place called Poncha Lumber which is a home improvement store close by. They have been swamped with insulation jobs and he has been able to help them. Great folks, and Jim enjoys his time there. We are so thankful for the diversity of what God has put in Jim's path. I think he likes the variety, and that fact that he is getting a paycheck.

Lots of things are going on at church right now. We changed locations!!! No longer are we at the Middle School, but we are now at the Community Center. This location is great for us. It is right down town, and the size fits us well. We can fit 60 to 70 people very comfortably, and the basement has a couple different classrooms for us to use. There is a kitchen, as well as storage! The Community Center is very happy to have us there as well - and has given us a great deal on using the space!
Set up still takes quite a bit of effort hauling stuff up and down the stairs. Pray that others step up to help with set-up and tear down. Here are some other highlights for this month:
  • Blanket Salida. It's our understanding that there are at least 70 people who are homeless in Salida, along with many others that are great need of warm clothes and blankets. What also makes this so neat is that we are working with three other churches on this project. These four churches have worked so well together - it's great!
  • Jim is also working with other churches and youth groups in putting together a youth band. They started practicing last week. They are doing this in preparation to open for a well known band coming to Salida in a few weeks. Jim is doing a great job in keeping things moving forward.
  • We now have a group that is meeting together to move us from a start up church to an established church. I will let Jim elaborate on that with the next posting. It's an exciting time though.
Sarah and Rebekah = They are doing great! I will have them update next week sometime. I'm sure they will each have lots to offer!

Jim and I are looking forward to next Monday PM - we have been invited to the Bronco game - very VIP!! Even the parking is VIP! It's all in who you know (or who invites you to join them!) So, look for us in the boxes... Should be fun!
The state volleyball tourney is in Denver in a couple weeks, and I plan to be watching that too! I love it!

Thanks for your continued interest, prayers, and love. Being here is a growing and stretching experience for our whole family. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Please know that if you want to visit Salida - we would love to have you!
Skiing should be great as there is a lot of snow up on Monarch right now.
We had tons here in the valley too - but wonderful 60 degree temps have taken care of that.

Blessings to you all.
Nancy

Romans 12:2

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.
