March 2010

Good March Morning!
Wanted to provide a quick update on what has been happening in Salida the last few weeks. Jim had the opportunity to teach on a Sunday AM at First Baptist, which is where the Gilmore's attend church.  He did an outstanding job speaking about not wasting you life and living with intention.  Our time is short, and we are not promised a tomorrow here on earth.  We sure love all the folks at that church, and it was a privilege to spend the day with them.

This month has brought more hurt to some of us in Salida.  Last week I attended a funeral of a 43 year old woman, Mary, who I played volleyball with the first year we arrived here.  She had a type of bone cancer that finally took her life.  She leaves behind a two girls, a freshman in HS and a 12 year old.
Last night, a very sweet lady from Steve and Donna's church passed away after a three year battle with cancer.  She was part of our ladies bible study, and such an amazing lady.  Her ministry through her cancer has been a true testament of how God can use a life dedicated to Him.  Her husband Paul is so sad and is I'm sure is already missing her so much. Her only daughter is from Denver and in town today.  The town of Salida is sort of reeling after three such deaths.  Lots of questions being asked.
Please pray that God would be glorified!  I don't know where Mary's heart was, but I sure know where Kathy and Steve's heart was, and is!  Pray that there would opportunities to share the hope that we have, and the indescribable joy through so much pain.
May we all stay sharp and connected to the Word - the harvest is so great.... everywhere.

Thanks to all of you who lift us up.  We pray that you are also being stretched and made uncomfortable for the Lord (I say that in love of course! :) )

Bill and his family are going to pull into town this weekend for Spring Break.  Really looking forward to spending time with them again.  It will be so different without Steve here, that I'm dreading it as well.  I know Bill is too!  It all pushes us toward that "new" normal that I still don't like it....
Last weekend, my college roommate and a friend drove in for a visit from NE.  Jim and I have spent countless hours with Karen over the years, and it was so fun to see her.  While she was here, Sarah had her musical performance that she has done for the last two years now.  She says she doesn't like production week - but I know she does!  The show turned out great, and I was able to help with make-up.
That's all for now.  May the Lord use you in mighty ways for His glory today!

Romans 12:2

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.
